Each month we hold a writing contest for our members, by our members. Writers are given parameters, such as a word count and/or a prompt. Entries are judged and discussed blindly. For June, writers had to write a 250-word story with the theme of summer vacation.

Embrace
by Thomas Brown
"The summer wind came blowing in, from across the sea.."
She sings the song so apropos of the day as he nears. She sways with the summer breeze
as Sinatra plays in her head.
"You smell amazing. Better than a cool breeze on a summer's day," he says.
She giggles at him, her inside joke. "I bet you say that to all the girls. Don't tell me your
name. Tell me you love me. Tell me you want me." She feels his warmth as he steps behind her.
His breath is at her neck; he presses tight to her. If she could have gasped, shuddered at his
touch, she would have.
"I don't want you. I need you. More than anything in this world. Do your feel the heat of our
touch? We are forever."
So romantic.
He embraces her; she doesn't refuse him. She feels the connection. "Hold me. Show me you
are the one. Love me."
The day is made for her, for them. All that matters is this place, this moment.
"I love you. I will always love you," he whispers to her.
"Yes. I feel your love," she laughs as he holds fast to her.
"This was meant to..."
CRUNCH! CRUNCH!
"I'm sorry, I am suddenly so hungry," she says as she tears his head free and devours it." His embrace continues. He doesn't need a head. She goes back to Sinatra, picking up at the end, again apropos.
"... mmm the summer wind..."
